Teen Volunteers - Leawood Pioneer

Summer teen volunteers are essential to helping the Library during the busiest part of our year. There are two types of volunteer opportunities at Leawood Pioneer:

Summer Reading Volunteers:


Job duties vary from day to day but will include:



  • Helping children and families select Summer Reading books

  • Keep book displays tidy and eye-catching

  • Restocking summer reading book displays

  • Interact with kids waiting to pick out books by helping with Word Search, I-Spy, and other activities like coloring pages.


Summer Reading Volunteers can expect to earn 8-24 hours spaced over the months of June and July, approximately 2-12 hours per week. Volunteers may serve no more than 4 volunteer hours per day.

Materials Handling Volunteers:

Job duties vary from day to day but will include:


  • Helping staff pull holds for sent item

  • Shelving holds

  • Pulling expired holds

  • Sorting and shelving materials like DVDs.


Material Handing Volunteers can expect to earn 16 to 32 hours spaced over the course of June and July, approximately 2-4 hours a week. Volunteers may serve no more than 4 volunteer hours per day.

  • Volunteers must be 13 years old before June 1, 2026

  • Submission of an application is not a guarantee of a position

  • Applications must be submitted by the volunteer

  • Applicants must sign up for and attend one of the orientation sessions listed below
