Friends of the Library Sorting & Shelving Volunteer

Are you an avid reader? Do you dream of shelving books? Detail oriented volunteers who love to organize are needed to help the Friends of Johnson County Library. Volunteers will help us scan donated books using an electric scanner at the Friends Sort Center. Once the books are sent to carts by the scanner, volunteers will unload the carts and places the books in the appropriate area of the warehouse. Volunteers will be trained to understand criteria for where books are placed. Additionally, volunteers will shelve some donated books by genre.

Volunteers must be able to stand and move frequently in warehouse environment. They must also be able to bend and lift books up to 20 lbs.

Volunteers are asked to commit to one - 3 hour shift per week for a minimum of six months. Shifts are available Monday-Friday from either 9AM-Noon or Noon-3PM.

A volunteer interview and training are required.

Friends of the Library Sorting Center is located near the Central Resource Library.
